Reasons for Limitarianism

There are growing concerns with the current levels of income and wealth inequalities. In this talk, Professor Robeyns will give an introduction to a recent book she wrote on reasons against wealth concentration, and reasons for having a limit to how much wealth a person can accumulate. The analysis is foremost grounded in normative political philosophy, but draws on insights from many disciplines. Limitarianism is not a program with concrete policy recommendations to be implemented tomorrow; rather it is an exercise in stretching the boundaries of what is thinkable in mainstream circles. But it does give very strong support for economists and other social scientists who argue for a range of policy measures and structural changes to the economy that would drastically reduce inequalities.

Ingrid Robeyns is a philosopher and economist, and holds the chair in ethics of institutions at Utrecht University (the Netherlands). At present, she is also a visiting professor at the Center for Social Exclusion (CASE) at the LSE in London.
